FAMOUS DISCIPLES MEMBERS

Three former U.S. Presidents have backgrounds in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  James Garfield was a student at Hiram College in Ohio from 1851-1853. Hiram was founded by the Disciples Church. Garfield would then return to the college in 1856 to become an instructor and eventually its president. Lyndon B. Johnson was baptized a Disciple in the river at Johnson City, Texas. Ronald Reagan grew up in a Disciples Church and played football at a Disciples college (Eureka College in Illinois).

Among Disciples Sports figures, famed golfer Ben Hogan and legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden come to mind. New York Yankee center fielder Bernie Williams, who has four World Series rings in addition to being an off-season guitarist in a Puerto Rico church band, is also a Disciples member.

Fairfax Christian Church is part of the Christian Church Capital Area (CCCA) Region, which is currently led by Regional Minister, Rev. Allen Harris.  For further information visit www.cccadisciples.org.
