Summertime is busy as ever around here!  We hope you can join us this Sunday for some special music ministry by the choir, as they will sing several songs from beloved Broadway musicals.  We will also be kicking off our Nominations Process for choosing the leaders and officers of the Church for the next year.  See you Sunday!

 This past Sunday, June 14, the Church Council sponsored a cookout on our front lawn to celebrate the ongoing success of our 20/20 campaign.  This was the first outdoor event in recent memory that wasn't spoiled by the weather.  Quite to the contrary, the weather couldn't have been better.  Blue skies, mid-70s, very light breeze.  The food was terrific (once again, we have some excellent cooks, chefs, and dessertiers in this church), and kids of all ages had fun playing games, chatting, and enjoying the beautiful spring day.

Our sermon series this May is focusing on identifying your core values - those principles that are central in our thoughts, opinions, and decisions.  You can follow along by downloading the mp3s here (Weeks 1, 2, and 3) or on the Audio page, and you can also download "My Little Book of Values," which we created to help you identify your core values.  And once you've taken some time to figure out what you value, the booklet will also help you to log how you apply those values and then help you to reflect on how you can include God as a part of living out your core values.  The booklet comes in 2 formats, one for viewing on your computer, and one for printing.

The weather forcast for the weekend looked grim all week.  As of Friday evening, Saturday morning was supposed to have a 30% chance of rain, but that had gone up to 60% when we awoke early in the morning.  Still, that means a 40% chance of no rain.  So we decided to go on with the show for the Spring Festival and Community Yard Sale.

When we woke up Saturday morning, you could tell it wouldn't be a good day to hold an event outside.  What we hadn't thought of before was that we have an abundance of hallway space, good interior hallway space with a roof overhead that would not let precipitation through.

So instead of hauling our stuff outside and setting our vendors up on the front lawn, we just set everything up inside, with our yard sale stuff in the McAffee Community Room, the bake sale in the nursery, the food sale in the kitchen (naturally), and the rest of our vendors in the hallways.  A little before 8am, the yard sale early birds started showing up.

We hope you had a happy Easter and had the chance to reflect on your relationship with Jesus and to celebrate God's "soul purpose" for you.  We had a terrific Easter worship service (mp3), and some special activities afterwards.

Worship and Wonder is a well-known children's Sunday school program, used by many Christian denominations in churches all over the world. A planned sequence of Bible stories is told throughout the year, introducing children from ages 3-10 to Christian tales and traditions. Stories are told in a visual and tactile format, using laminated and wooden figures as illustrative tools, in a way that young children can understand. Children are given the chance to manipulate the figures themselves, allowing them to comprehend and interpret the stories in their own unique way.

The children begin the church service with the adult congregation until after the Children's Message, when they go to their own dedicated room. There, they learn and play through song and story, following the general format of the adult church service. At least two adults are present with the children at all times.

This Easter Sunday, Fairfax Christian Church celebrated the institution of Worship and Wonder into its growing curriculum of church community activities. We hope your children will join us as we rediscover the story of Jesus' resurrection together.

We completed the rededication of our sanctuary and Russ Wagner-Bark was installed as our new lay minister.
